Berlin

Jim and I went to Berlin on Friday to pick-up the twins’ Swedish Passports.  We went by ourselves this time and we had time to do a little sightseeing.
The Brandenburg Gate (built in 1791) is my favorite building in Berlin.  It’s the only remaining gate of a series through which Berlin was once entered.
The Reichstag (parliament) building.
The Reichstag dome is the large glass dome at the very top of the building. The dome has a 360-degree view of Berlin. You have to pre-register on –line to visit the dome. We had not done that, so no visit for us.

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe doesn’t require any pre-registration.  It’s a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.  It consists of a 19,000 square meters (4.7 acres) site covered with 2,711concrete slabs arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field.  It’s a very strange place. The “Place of Information” underground tells the story of the Holocaust and it was very moving.
